Sneak Peak - Anne & Aaron

Here's a little teaser from the wedding that we recently did in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. I think it's awfully clever when couples having an outdoor wedding choose to put their ceremony program on a fan. This is foremost on my mind right now because it's currently 106˚ in Austin, Texas. Oh my goodness. We are all melting. Fans are certainly coming in handy right about now. Fans and iced tea. And swimming pools. And shade. And air conditioning.

You get the picture.

Shop Atown!

If you're looking for a guide & blog to some of the coolest retailers in Austin, you must check out http://www.shopatown.com/! The stores that are featured on this site are some of my favorites in ton. They all carry very unique, often one of a kind items.

So, mosey on over to Shop Atown and then mosey on over to the shops.

We do a lot of moseying here in Austin, Texas...

Tickled.

This is a photo of the mother of the bride having a laugh as her daughter, Kim, gets ready to put on her wedding dress. Every time I look at this photo it makes me smile.

I hope you find many smiles today,

The Disposable Memory Project

This is really cool:

The Disposable Memory Project has left disposable cameras around the world. The idea is for people to pick them up, take some photos and then return them. On the website, they track the cameras and post the photos as the cameras are returned. I find this concept pretty fascinating. I wish there was one lying around Austin that I could find and shoot, but I kind of doubt it! Check out the site, let me know what you think.

It's all in the details...

This photo from Shaun-Elizabeth and Wes' wedding in May was featured in an an article in the Houston Chronicle about adding details to your wedding that are special. For instance, Shaun-Elizabeth was the fifth member of her family to wear a wedding veil originally bought in Brussels for her aunt's own 1966 wedding.

Here are some more photos from their fabulous wedding.

Once again, for the love of the Polaroid.

There's a group of scientists in the Netherlands are trying to remake the concoction of chemicals used to make the instant film. They're actually doing this in an old factory that used to make the Polaroid film.

Good luck fellas!

SHOES!!

The bride and the bridesmaids at this wedding all wore a pair of high heels of their choice. All of the bridesmaids were wearing short white dresses which you don't see a lot. But it looked really great, especially with all of the different shoes. The bride wore electric blue heels. Love it!

More from this wedding in the next coming week...

LADYFLASH and her ladyflash blog!

Do you know what I love about Spring weddings?

FLOWERS.

The massive abundance of flowers.

Peonies, french tulips, dogwood blossoms....

love, love, love.

Here's a little splash of awesome.

My friend Dave Mead went up to Alaska to shoot portraits during the World Beard and Mustache Championship. Yes, that's right folks, this is a real contest and it appears to be pretty serious.

Check out an entire series of portraits on Dave's website. They're truly something special!

And now for something a little different (FOR REAL)!

Many clients hire talk about wanting to do something a little different at their wedding. Sometimes they are able to achieve this in subtleties: an unexpected splash of color, some really fantastic favors, or perhaps a funky wedding cake. Then there are couples like Kristina and Brooks who manage to do it REALLY differently and throw a killer party at the same time.

The decided that in lieu of a traditional wedding ceremony, they would tell the story of how they met by performing a musical. Not only this, they enlisted all of their bridesmaids and groomsmen to participate. Before you ask, NO, none of them were "theater people." But they all participated and I have to say, it was pretty great. The guests were kept in the dark until they entered the ballroom. Little did they know, they too would be participating.

In order to indicate time moving forward, they would turn the lights off, don their "time travel" gear and wave glow sticks wildly in the air. It was effective and hilarious!

They did bring a judge up on stage to make it official...

Then went on to have a gorgeous wedding reception on the mezzanine at The Driskell Hotel.

Below you will see possibly the best Grooms cake EVER, the bride recreating a famous scene from Star Wars, and finally, the sad yet inevitable destruction of R2D2. We all took it pretty hard. I'm sure he was tasty though.

Thanks to Kristina and Brooks for keeping things lively in the world of weddings!

Holga - Cate & Will

Pretty eerie light leaks from these Holga shots. Probably because my camera strap keeps breaking and when the camera falls on the ground, the back pops off exposing the film a bit. This is completely fine with me.

Just a little something that I'm excited about...

I don't know if it's The Arcade Fire singing in the background, the subject matter itself or pure nostalgia. But watching the trailer for the Where the Wild Things Are (a remake of the classic children's book) makes me tear up every single time. Check it out...

Hello Pretty.

More from this wedding coming soon!

Hola, it's me.

I know I've been absent from photosmashing for a few weeks. We've been slammed with weddings and there hasn't been much time to post with all of the other work that needed to be done. But enough about that! I'll be putting up photos from the weddings we've shot in the past several weeks.

We've just returned from Mexico after photographing a lovely wedding in Playa del Carmen. As a result of horrible weather in Dallas and being stuck in the airport for 8 hours, I have some nice "Sleeping in Public" photos for you too!

Stay tuned,

Rally around the Polaroid.

Do you have a Polaroid? Do you love it? I do.
