Getcha Party on: GIRL TALK

There are very few things I like better than dancing.   Photography is one of them.  Honestly though, it's sometimes neck and neck because although photography has the possibility to bring me joy, dancing ONLY brings me joy.  My favorite dance party album right now is Feed The Animals by Girl Talk (it has been for over a year).  The DJ behind Girl Talk is Greg Gillis.  Do you love mash-ups?  Well, he has approximately 300+ samples of music on Feed the Animals, so it's a monster mash up.  Not only do I love dancing to Girl Talk, I love photographing other people dancing to Girl Talk.  So this was a fantastic 16 minutes of shooting for me in which I got in trouble for standing on a table on stage (so I could get the last shot) and received a ride on a stranger's shoulders from the stage to the pit because I couldn't get through the crowd of kids dancing on stage.  Thank you, big guy.

Download Feed The Animals and let the boogie begin.

Also, if you are feeling the need to get your live music boogie (or metal or punk) on, you absolutely MUST go to Fun Fun Fun Fest this weekend!!! I will see you there.

FUN FUN FUN Fest!!

If you are in Austin this weekend, you should definitely be attending Fun Fun Fun Fest in Waterloo Park!  It's going to be a beautiful weekend to listen to music.  Besides, there's going to be a mechanical bull.  Who can resist mechanical bull antics?  There will also be: Indie Rock, Hip Hop, Punk Rock, Metal,  a Comedy stage, vintage clothes. cold beer, veggie dogs, bike valet (so don't drive your car), people you like and much fun to be had by all.  C'mon kids!  You know you wanna go.

See you there (if I finally recover from this stinking flu.  Ugh).

Dressing for the Occasion: Bow ties.

We recently traveled to New Orleans to photograph a wedding.  Much to my delight, many of the men in attendance were wearing beautiful colorful bow ties.  I'm of the opinion that men don't dress up nearly as much as they should.  I cannot tell you how many times I see women dressed in a gorgeous outfit and their male companions can barely muster a pearl snap button down, a pair of jeans and flip flops.  Now, let me be perfectly clear:  I live in Austin, Texas so casual is the new black.   Frankly, I enjoy this mindset.  It's always OK to wear jeans.  There is not one fancy restaurant in town that would turn you away for wearing them.  I'm just saying that every once in awhile it would be nice if some of the fellas in this town would put on something a little more dressed up.  It's not a mystery that women like this too.

That's all, don't throw blog stones at me.

Anyway, I digress....here is a sampling of the gorgeous bow ties I saw at the wedding:

Sweet Wedding (and an Ashley update)

Hello there,

I apologize for the few and far between blog posts.  I've had a really heavy travel schedule lately which has ultimately led to my getting the flu.  Ugh.  So, I'm obviously behind on posting.  Many apologies!  Hopefully I'll be able to catch up in the next week.

Today I'm bringing you one of my favorite weddings of 2009.  It was a second marriage for both the bride and groom with only 16 guests in attendance, many of whom were their children.  The ceremony was followed by a dinner with the loveliest abundance of flowers on the dining table.  Although we were only the for a couple of hours, the love  and excitement between the bride and groom and the combined families was contagious.  We left with big smiles on our faces that evening.  Congratulations, Lorrie and Ken!

I'm off to nap now. Probably for the rest of the day.

Musica musica musica

I realized that I haven't really posted any music photos lately.  So, I'll be combining Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits Festival photos into one post (coming soon).  Well maybe...OK, I'll try.

We just shot a wedding in New Orleans last weekend.  I'll post photos this week.  There's lots of bow ties and such.

Happy rainy Monday, Austin!
